This was one of the best highlights of the trip. I remember being first being exposed to the Great Wall of China in elementary school during a field trip to a museum that was exhibiting artifacts and pictures of the Great Wall.
You may already know that the Great Wall is one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. The Great Wall was constructed, reconstructed and added to over several hundreds of years. It is the longest human made structure, thus why it is named as one of the ancient wonders of the world. It extends north, east, and west some 4,000 miles. It was built as a protective fortress against and lookout for enemy intruders.
I was so amazed to see 70 and 80 yr old men and women climbing the wall like it was nothing! It is certainly steep and there were some people that would vomit as I passed them. There were vendors all along the wall, you could never get away from them in China. Almost anywhere you walked within the city area, like downtown you were being pressured to buy things. There was no difference on the wall.
The wall was so congested with tourists, people from within China and abroad. We heard a lot different accents and languages while there, including some Africans and Europeans as well.
I think I got some great pics. I took most of them, but I got some others from my friends who took some great shots as well. Being there was definitely an experience and I was taken aback by God's glory. Only God could give people such an idea and the tools necessary to complete such a daunting task.
Those of us who were back, sang for the tourists. It was fun and we were told that we got on the news. Some students were also interviewed after we sang. Well, I hope you are able to experience even a small portion of what I experienced just by looking at the pictures now. Bless ya!
